Wrap Up A Remodel

It’s time to start thinking about your holiday gift list again.  Gift ideas can often be difficult.  What do you get for the spouse who has everything?  Or what’s a practical gift for the adult children who would rather return your annual gift to the store for cash?  How about a contribution to a custom home remodeling project?

It’s a gift that keeps on giving.  It’s priceless – er, pricey, you say?  Perhaps.  But it’s also practical.  It’s probably something you’ve been meaning to do for years in your own home, or something that the kids really need to do but don’t have time.  If you initiate the project – don’t just put a check in an envelope – it can get well on its way to happening.  Try a custom bathroom remodel, for instance.  Cut out pictures from magazines or catalogs that show bathroom ideas – from flooring options to fixtures.  Get ballpark estimates from custom remodelers.  Figure out what needs to be done and create a visual for it.  Even if it’s just a new bathroom vanity, give the gift recipient some food for thought.  Create a photo gallery and frame it, then wrap it up in holiday paper.  Establish a deadline for results and help the recipient to get it done.

Or, agree with each other that this year, the remodeling effort is the gift.  No others allowed.  Even if the remodeling spans two Christmas gifts and two birthdays, it’s still a gift that you’ll treasure for a lifetime.  It can even be done by Christmas, if you hurry.  But don’t forget to put that little wrapped package with the picture under the tree.
