The Thomas Custom Builders 2014 Crystal Ball
Just like the soothsayers who look into their crystal balls to predict what the New Year holds, so, too, does Thomas Custom Builders have predictions. Right or wrong, they’re fun to make and fun to look back on to see if we were right. They are based on what we know about the industry over the last year, the trends we’ve seen and the expert reports we follow. So, with a deep breath, we say…
We are optimistic that the remodeling market will be better in 2014 than it was in 2013. We saw it wane hard in 2013 and never quite recover fully. Despite the uncertainty in Washington, consumers seem to have more confidence and we will see that play out in remodeling increases in the coming year. As the real estate market comes back, so will the remodeling industry. It will be sporadic and slow at first, but it will gain momentum by the second half.
If you’re thinking about a remodeling project – from a significant kitchen remodel to a simple room addition – now is the time to act. Hire a reputable contractor before the demand goes up, along with the prices. Good remodelers have a full calendar at least three months out, so work that in to your time line. Once the demand begins to rise, so will the prices of materials and services. If you act now, you’ll be ahead of the curve.
