The Gift of Remodeling

Spring and early summer are popular times for gift-giving — Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, weddings. What about the gift of a home remodel? Can it be done in time for one of these special occasions?

If you decide to bestow the gift of a room remodel, be realistic. Typically, it takes one to two months for design and drawings to be presented by the builder and pricing to be negotiated. Obtaining building permits takes a minimum of one week, but more often can take up to four weeks. The room addition itself takes 90-120 days.

Don’t forget that the best builders are also in demand, and they may not be readily available to start your job right away. Get a clear schedule from the custom builder. A room addition or room remodel is a major undertaking – both in cost and commitment. Don’t rush yourself or your builder. You’ll only set yourself up for disappointment. Take your time and wind up with a quality project that everyone will be proud of.
