Keeping Kitchens Simple

When remodeling to get your dream kitchen, only you can decide exactly what you need and how it will fit your lifestyle.  If you’re a gourmet cook, you’ll want a maximum-efficiency set-up that allows for all the necessary conveniences.  If you entertain regularly, you’ll want to have a space with good traffic flow.

Simplicity is winning out in kitchen remodeling.  Tile work is simpler, lines are sleeker and cabinetry is more efficient.  Pull-out drawers inside cabinets, Lazy Susan’s and spice racks are all hidden behind simple, attractive doors.  Stainless steel appliances are making the look cleaner and less cluttered, and in many instances, appliances are disappearing behind cabinetry.

Contemporary, sleek designs are more popular.  The National Kitchen and Bath Association’s annual survey of kitchen designers showed that transitional design – simple and more modern — is preferred over traditional design.

Breakfast bars and islands are positioned both for maximum efficiency and maximum space.  They are becoming multi-use centres for food preparation, storage and eating.  If the kitchen is part of a great room or open space, they are also used as the gathering area.  Overall, a kitchen remodeling project should reflect your needs and personality, but keep it simple!
