Big Spenders – Kitchen and Bath Remodels for 2015
Everyone knows the most bang for your buck in remodeling comes from kitchens and bathrooms – both for the homeowner and the remodeler. We all want that dream kitchen or bathroom, and this year, it looks like consumers will go for them in a big way. A survey done by Angie’s List shows homeowners intend to spend more on remodeling than in the past, and their most popular remodeling project will be the bathroom. From the comments of the survey participants, who were mostly remodeling professionals, customers will be willing to spend more. In fact, half of them said their most recent remodeling jobs were up to $5,000 higher than in 2013 and 23 percent said the expenditures were up between $5,000 and $10,000.
Custom cabinetry, bigger showers and custom tile work are all contributing to the bigger price tags in recent remodeling efforts. The increase in consumer confidence and the steady come-back of the building industry in the last year has proven to be a positive indicator. Interest rates are low and builders are available, so it makes perfect sense to do some home modifications. If you’re thinking of several different projects, talk to your professional remodeler up front. Get as complete a scope of work as possible in the beginning, because it will help keep everyone on track and get you the most accurate estimate.
If this is your dream remodel, make sure you consider functionality and future needs. Get the best that you can afford and get what you love. Share your vision with your builder and take his advice — it could save you money or add to the integrity of the project. Most importantly, choose a builder you are comfortable with. Check places like Angie’s List for recommendations. Thomas Custom Builders earned the Angie’s List Super Service Award for outstanding service THREE YEARS RUNNING, and it would be our privilege to help you remodel your bathroom or kitchen this year.
